the saddest nod 

i read that
after his stroke
baudelaire
confined to
a sanatorium
once nodded
at his reflection
in the mirror
as if it was a visitor
in his room
& as i sit here
jabbing this
poetry machine
i see my face above
the tiers of keys
in the midnight window
& i weep for
poor baudelaire
for the stolen parts
of his dear brain
& the saddest nod
in the universe
