What a difference a year makes! Back in July 2016, we launched our very first call and didn’t know what to expect – which meant lots of excited yelping every time a submission arrived. All the sins wouldn’t exist without our wonderful artists, poets, filmmakers, writers photographers trusting us to share their work and, now, here we are at issue 4 and once again we’ve been thrilled by the way you’ve responded. We’ve loved seeing all the ways in which our dislocation theme was interpreted – from dislocation from your own country in Crisosto Apache’s poem Conquered, to dislocation of the self in Leslie Tucker’s artwork 50 Sure Fire Ways to Change Your Life.

As artist George Chakravarthi argued in our essay launching our theme “there’s something lazy in being comfortable. You don’t learn from a comfortable place.” And if one thing links our pieces this quarter it is that unnerving sense of experiencing art that both draws you in and tips you off balance – be that in the form of video, poetry, prose or graphic illustration.

So dive in and immerse yourself in that glorious sense of dislocation that great art can produce, encouraging us all to ask questions about the world around us.
