The Magic in the Motion – Peter Scheponik

The Magic in the Motion

The sandpiper runs
as if its life depends
upon moving faster
than the lacey-edged tongues
of surf.
How the piper’s legs move
like pistons that prove
the power of locomotion.
How the white caps swell
as if compelled
by some secret magic
of the ocean.
It almost seems
movement is God
and all things dreams
of action.
The beach is sacrificed
to the traction of the tides
as the seconds turn into hours.
