Muse of Fire – Frederick Pollack

Muse of Fire

Some local talent
in the lit half of an empty warehouse.
Blobs, angels. But the artist
you talk with is passionate
and horribly articulate.

Like a poet years ago who stood
behind every poem – introducing
then explaining it
and if you still didn’t like it
writing you out of her life.

Presumably hacks
who live the fetishes of bigger hacks
in movies or pop music also
view themselves as existential
heroes when rejected.

Humiliating to find
no way of subjectively
differentiating your emotions
from those of anyone who says,
I have discovered Beauty. It’s important.

Poetics: neither navelgazing mainstream nor academic pseudo-avant-garde.
